Owens was just a Negro. He decide to prove that Der Futherer and his race

fouled twice in his trial. He thought
bitterly “Did I come 3000 miles for this?”

Long came to Owens and spoke to him. Long has qualified finals in his first
attempt. Long asked Owens that what was eating him.

Long adviced Owens to draw a line few
inches in back of the board and asked to aim at making his take off from the
line.

Owens confidently drew the line and
qualified for the finals

Later, in the night Owens went to Luz
long’s room and spoke for two hours. They both spoke about track and field.

A real friendship has grown between Long
and Owens.

Next day, Owens broke the record and won
Gold medal. Luz Long congratulated Owens.

Owens thought that Luz Long was the
epitome of Pierre de Coubertin’s
sayings Pierre de Coubertin was the
founder of the modern Olympic games. Coubertin told that “The important thing in the
Olympic Games is not winning but taking part. The essential thing in life is
not conquering but fighting well”
